On July 21, 2004, H.E. Ling Rinpoche arrived in the morning at the community hall where the initiation was to be held. He was warmly received by the entire public and monks while the monks of Kagyu Monastery offered a performance of religious instruments.

Once H.E. Ling Rinpoche was on throne he started by giving an explanation of the initiation. Then he proceeded with giving the Buddha Amitayus Long life Initiation (Tsewang). Rinpoche concluded the initiation by advising the monks and lay people present on how to put into practice the basic teachings of the Buddha.

There were between 5,000 to 6,000 attendees. As the crowd was much greater than the community hall could hold, many had to sit outside. Once the teaching had concluded everyone eagerly gathered to receive personal blessings from H.E. Ling Rinpoche.

After lunch, the central school for Tibetans invited Rinpoche to be the guest of honor at the finals for the cultural and sports competition between all of the Tibetan schools in India. At the award ceremony Ling Rinpoche gave a short speech and presented the trophies to the winners.
